What is your favorite Bible verse? John 12:44 Then Jesus cried out, “Whoever believes in me does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. The one who looks at me is seeing the one who sent me. I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.
The best part about following Jesus is...the daily discovery of new depths of His love and faithfulness
What do you love most about serving on the board at Faith Christian? The best part is being able to see, even much more deeply than I could before, the Christ-like hearts of so many of His servants offering themselves to the Lord.
What motivated you to offer your time and talents to serve on the board? I believe private Christian schools are one of the greatest tools used by God to influence mankind to walk in His ways…and I want to be used by God to lend my resources to His cause.
What is your favorite memory of FCS? There are so many that come to mind, but it’s hard to top the whole crowd flooding the court in celebration after Josh Anders’ buzzer-beater 3-pointer at my senior year basketball homecoming game.
What does Faith Christian School mean to you? FCS is an amazing conduit through which we fulfill Jesus’s great commission to make disciples of all nations—A community of Christ-Followers who are working together to help raise up the next generation to look to Jesus…that’s FCS to me!
Kay, and her husband Mitch have been married for 34 years. They are "transplants" from Louisiana. Mitch works as a Civil Engineer at Caltrans. As a child, Kay lived in Singapore and Indonesia where there was only a Catholic Church that had a Latin Mass, but a young couple held a weekly Bible Study for the youth and she became a Christian at 13. Kay shares, "I actually wanted to become a missionary for years."
What is your occupation? Family Manager
Tell us a little about your family: Mitch and I have two children who attended FCS (k-12): Elizabeth (2012) and Craig (2014). Elizabeth just passed her State and Federal Boards in Veterinary Technology. Craig is finishing at Yuba College and planning to continue at Chico State.
What is your connection to FCS other than serving on the Board? I have been involved with FCS since 1999 when Elizabeth started Kindergarten. I’ve been a Room Mother, sports driver (and cheerer), chaperone and driver for field trips, led Moms in Prayer, fundraising for Mexico Missions, etc. and loved every moment.
What is your favorite meal? Chicken and sausage gumbo

If you could go on vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go? I change my mind frequently. Today it would be Italy.
What do you like to do in your spare time? I love to read, crochet, cook and bake.
How do you serve in other areas of ministry outside of FCS? I attended and then served as a Discussion Leader at Bible Study Fellowship for 20 years. I help with Compassionate Ministries at my church.
What is your favorite Bible verse? Psalm 51:10, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” (ESV)
The best part about following Jesus is... the inexpressible gratitude that God loved me and saved me through Jesus’ obedience. Knowing WHO God is (sovereign, faithful, just, merciful) allows me to deal with the world’s sin, tragedies and pain because my hope is in HIM.
What do you love most about serving on the Board at Faith Christian? First, what I love MOST about FCS are the teachers who have faithfully prayed and been instrumental in developing the character of my children. I serve on the Board to support the teachers and prayerfully lead the school to glorify God. I am privileged to serve with other Board members who are godly men and women.
What motivated you to offer your time and talents to serve on the Board? I love FCS.
What is your favorite memory of FCS? There are so many, but as strange as it may sound, I loved sitting in the rain, wrapped in a blanket because it was freezing watching Elizabeth play soccer, OR sitting in the shade (when I could find some), with a cold wet towel around my neck because it was so hot watching Craig play soccer.
What does Faith Christian School mean to you? Faith Christian to me is a group of people (teachers, staff, administration and Board members) who though flawed, love God and want to serve families and students by providing a safe, loving Christ-centered environment for their children to learn and then go out into the world and represent Christ.
What is your background?: I grew up in Marysville. I attended Faith Christian School from 3rd grade until 12th grade (I attended all three campuses). I graduated in 1991 and attended Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas where I received my BBA in Accounting. After college I returned to live in Yuba City.

What motivated you to offer your time and talents to serve on the Board? Love and appreciation for the School and its faculty and staff.
What is your favorite memory of FCS? The teachers (especially Mr. Herrera) who showed genuine interest in my spiritual walk.
What does Faith Christian School mean to you? Faith is a nurturing environment where are students are encouraged to grow closer to Christ and stronger in their faith.
I am a Jayhawker, born and raised in the great state of Kansas. I attended college at Oklahoma Panhandle State University, received my master’s degree in Instructional Technology from West Texas A & M University and further certifications in K-12 Building Leadership and Library Media Specialist from Fort Hays State University. To say I love school and learning is an understatement. My family says I’m addicted to taking “just one more” college class!
What is your occupation? I am an educator. (Did I mention I love school and learning?) I spent eight years teaching 6th grade social studies, literature and technology. I then had the privilege of helping to build one of the first virtual schools for students in grades K-12. I served as principal of that school for 11.5 years and also served as principal of an alternative high school for two years. Looking for a change from administration, I served as a library media specialist for a year before moving to California. Since living in Yuba City I’ve worked as a teacher for homeschool families with a local charter school.
Tell us a little about your family: My husband, Travis, works for California Resources Corp., and it was his job that brought us to Yuba City in 2014. We have one daughter, Emme, who attends Faith Christian. We have been so very thankful for the blessing the Lord has brought our way through our move to California and especially by becoming involved with Faith Christian.
What is your connection to FCS other than serving on the Board? My daughter, Emme, is a student at Faith Christian. I have coached volleyball for her team for several years and enjoy volunteering at the school in many ways. One of my very favorite things to do is to serve on the school marketing committee, a team of amazing people who are dedicated to promoting Faith Christian school to our community!
What is your favorite meal? My favorite meal would come straight from the Farmer’s Market and Fisherman’s Wharf. Slice and roast any garden fresh veggie, top it with a little salmon and follow with a dessert of fruit, cobbler style, and I’m a happy girl!
What other interesting jobs have you had? Before starting my career in education, I clocked in as a lifeguard at the local pool, administrative assistant at my church, insurance and accounts receivable collector at a hospital and bookkeeper at a farm machinery and car dealership. Maybe not super interesting, but they gave me pocket money and paid my tuition through college!
If you could go on vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go? Where would I NOT go would be an easier question to answer! I know I mentioned I love to travel! If I had to narrow it down a bit, I would first book a ticket to visit the Mediterranean coast of Europe – the south of Spain, France, Italy, Greece… The food, the sun, the architecture. My camera would get a workout!
What do you like to do in your spare time? When I have a free minute, I look for ways to spend it with my family. We love to travel and experience new things together. I also love to watch my daughter in her favorite activities, whether it’s volleyball, basketball, swim team, cheerleading, dance or gymnastics. We are huge volleyball and basketball fans and can be found in the gym almost any time our favorite team, the FCS Lions, are playing! Photography, shopping, computers, word games and puzzles are other ways I like to spend my free time.
How do you serve in other areas of ministry outside of FCS? I have taught children of all ages, from toddlers to teens, served on many different committees and service groups, and led the technology team during the worship service at my church.
What is your favorite Bible verse? Just one? Several verses have meant a lot to me over the last few years:
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:14
“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; With His love, He will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.” Zephaniah 3:17
“It is in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for.” Eph. 1:11 Msg
The best part about following Jesus is...knowing Him intimately. The relationship I have with Christ is priceless. Through struggles and hard times in my life He has become so real to me, making Himself known as my savior, healer, defender, and so much more. On a daily basis He reminds me that He loves me, He really is in control, and He has a great plan for me. Because He calls me friend, I love to get to know Him better by reading the Bible and just spending time in His presence.
What do you love most about serving on the Board at Faith Christian? I have a great passion for Faith Christian and how we can impact students’ lives on a daily basis. I just love the teachers, coaches and administrators who sacrifice and work diligently to speak love and life into our kids. It is my privilege to support the administration, teachers and students of Faith Christian in any way that I can! As a side bonus, I have received more of a blessing than I’ve given as I’ve served along side some amazing men and women on the Board. My faith, my walk with the Lord and my love for the school have all increased as I’ve spent time with them fasting and in prayer.
What motivated you to offer your time and talents to serve on the Board? I am sold out to the mission of Faith Christian. When we joined the FCS family, I was anxious to be involved and help the school in any way that I could. Joining the Board, I was hopeful that my experiences in education would allow me to bring an educator’s perspective to the table!
What is your favorite memory of FCS? My favorite memory of FCS is from a time shortly after we moved to California and enrolled in Faith Christian. After being surrounded by Christian friends, mentored by a fabulous teacher and immersed in a Bible-based classroom, I saw a change in my daughter, a softening of her heart and an even greater kindness and love for those around her. Over the years she has also developed a more mature Christian world-view thanks to the teachers who help her filter what is going on around her and in the world through the lens of the gospel. Knowing that she is watching them and learning how to live out her faith in practical, every day ways makes my heart happy.
What does Faith Christian School mean to you? To me, Faith Christian School is family. When we moved to California we were looking for a place to plug in, get involved and feel like we belonged. We found all of that and more, including great friendships and a place to call home!
Born and raised in Yuba City, I am a blessed wife and grateful mother of two boys. As a youngster, I dreamed of being an artist. So, I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from California State University, Chico with a concentration in Management Information Systems. I enjoy laughing, dreaming, cooking, exploring the great outdoors, and spending time with my family.
What is your occupation? I work for a leading global management consulting firm, helping organizations realize their most important goals.
Tell us a little about your family: My husband, Lance Maddux, and I met in 1995 (in a college accounting class!) and we were married in 2004. 21 years later, Lance is still my very best friend and I cherish him. He is a wonderful, caring and kind husband and father. We have two children, Corbin and Ewan, who are just 18 months apart in age. They remind us of a couple of bear cubs. We delight in being parents to these terrific boys and are grateful every day that God has given them to us to love! They teach us so much every day!
What is your connection to FCS other than serving on the Board? I am also a FCS parent. Both of our boys have attended FCS since enrolling in Kindergarten.
What is your favorite meal? Breakfast all day, every day! I love the eggs benedict at Linda’s Soda Bar and so do my boys!
What other interesting jobs have you had? When I was working my way through college, I had a summer job at the local tomato canning plant where I worked on the sorting belt as the tomatoes came off the truck and made their way to the pressure cookers. It was not uncommon to get snakes and rats (and the occasional shoe) mixed in with the tomatoes coming in from the fields. I would have to get them off the belt before they were made into tomato paste! Can you imagine my horror seeing these critters come down the belt toward me?!? Yikes!!! By the way, I couldn’t get them all – sorry.
If you could go on vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go? My heart belongs to west shore Lake Tahoe. Lance and I were married there and we love taking our boys now to enjoy God’s beautiful creation. It is breathtaking.
What do you like to do in your spare time? I love to play with my boys, learn to cook from my mother, go for a run, hike, kayak, and learn something fascinating each day. If I can use my “spare” time to bless others, I enjoy that more than anything.
How do you serve in other areas of ministry outside of FCS? This year, my husband and I made a prayerful decision to pool all of our time, energy, and resources for the ministry of FCS. While we certainly continue to support our local church activities at Hope Point Nazarene, we felt God’s calling for us to focus our hearts in service to our children’s school, and the teachers, staff, and families. We can already feel how this decision has made an impact in how we serve.
What is your favorite Bible verse? Romans 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
The best part about following Jesus is...He never changes! He has and always will be there for us even when we drift. He is there with open arms to love us, to forgive us, to root for us, to fight our battles, to encourage us, to comfort us, to give us freedom, to pour out His amazing grace and mercy. We don’t have to earn His love. His love is the gift of eternal life and we just need to receive Him and follow Him in our faith. Glory!
What do you love most about serving on the Board at Faith Christian? What an honor! I am humbled to serve on the Board at FCS and grateful for the opportunity. I love this school—it is a very special place. The teachers, staff, administrators, and Board care so deeply for the students and families, supporting one another and beginning each day with prayer and thanksgiving. The classroom curriculum is outstanding, and helps challenge our children to strive for excellence in academics, in building their Christian character, and in developing their personal relationship with God. To serve on the Board of this tremendous school, to support our awesome teachers, and help advance this ministry in some way, is a great privilege.
What motivated you to offer your time and talents to serve on the Board? God motivated me to serve on the Board and He moved mountains in my life to make it possible. I was drowning under the weight of my previous job. It took everything out of me, including my spirit and energy to serve others in the way that I longed to serve. The day that I was offered my new position is the very same day I was asked to serve on the school Board. In that moment, I knew again that God’s plans will ALWAYS be bigger and better than anything I could ever dream up for myself. God is so faithful and answered my tearful prayers, with His perfect timing, to make ALL things possible and then some! I serve with a full heart, knowing that God goes before me.
What is your favorite memory of FCS? I feel so blessed to have had both of my boys taught by the wonderful Mrs. Karen Crawford in Kindergarten before she retired last summer. I very much enjoyed celebrating her long career and her service to the Lord when she retired. It is a very sweet memory and I’m so glad to see Karen still involved in the lives of her many, many students over the years! She has touched so many lives!
What does Faith Christian School mean to you? Faith Christian School is truly a beacon of hope and light in this Yuba-Sutter community. The teachers, staff, administrators, and Board members deeply care about our school and for the families and children to whom we minister. Every family, every child is loved and cared for and prayed over. Everything we do, every decision we make is done humbly in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I am so grateful that my boys are experiencing the beauty and the love of Christ within this school. May God continue to shine His brilliant face upon our school so that it may bless generations of children to come.
