FCS Family K-12 Update

September 25, 2020
By Bill Hannold, Superintendent

FCS Families,

I wanted to bring our whole school family up to date with our most current information.

We have received some feedback regarding our Waiver application for resuming K-6 in-person learning. The first response was that our application had been sent to Dr. Luu with the comments that it was complete, ready for Dr. Luu’s review and that it “looked extremely professional.”  We have also been told that we should hear back today, September 25, if there is anything that we need to change.

Dr. Luu is to forward our waiver to the CDPH for final approval of our reopening plan. The CDPH has been responding within two to three days, so we are anticipating knowing soon when we can officially open our K-6 classes for in person learning. The earliest that could be would be Monday, October 5. We will confirm the elementary opening date as soon as approval of our waiver is received.

We are also encouraged that the number of COVID-19 cases and the positivity rates of testing have been decreasing which should allow Sutter County to move from the purple to red tier. After we have been in the red tier for 2 weeks, we will be able to begin in-person learning for our 7-12 grades as well. As soon as that level is reached, we will communicate a reopening date for classes on our secondary campus.

While the waiting process has been difficult for everyone, you may not be aware that a few Christian Schools that have opened, in opposition to the state and health officials’ directives, have been ordered by the courts to “cease and desist” in-person learning.

Our school board has continued to follow legal counsel from our Association of Christian Schools International regarding our response to state and health officials’ directives. The court cases we have been monitoring regarding the constitutionality of mandates from the state, that have ordered school closures, are still hung up in the appeals court process, so there is no immediate relief in sight on the legal front.

We are grateful for the Day Camp option that has allowed several dozen students on both campuses to have supervised distance learning and we cannot wait for the rest of our students to join in-person.

Thanks for your prayers and continued support during these unusual times. We know these circumstances have not been easy for anyone, but we are trusting in God’s timing to be able to resume in-person learning very soon.

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28

Blessings,
