Poetry Out Loud - to a Packed Crowd

February 07, 2019
By Steffany Ritchie, ELA Teacher

The ELA classes at FCS were visited earlier in the semester by Marcelo Hernandez Castillo, a poet and essayist who is working with the local Arts Council to promote Poetry Out Loud.  He encouraged our students to participate in this national contest that focuses on poem recitation and comes with cash prizes and scholarship opportunities.

Four students accepted the challenge to memorize and recite a poem in the Poetry Out Loud local contest held at Lee Burrows Theater on February 5th.  Bridget Coggins, David Wickline, Maddi Smart, and Grace Patterson competed against 46 other students from Yuba City High, Sutter High and Albert Powell Schools in front of a packed house!

All four of our students represented Faith Christian very well!
